Sleep No More

We finally went to see Sleep No More! The show has been out for a while but we couldn't justify it until now because it's really expensive. So finally we went as part of our anniversary celebration. If you haven't heard of it, Sleep No More is a very cool and creepy interactive theatre experience. A huge warehouse in Chelsea with six floors has been turned into a hotel set in the 1920s. Everyone in the "audience" wears a mask and can't speak for the three hour show. There are 100 rooms you can wander through as you watch various story lines unfold with the overarching theme being Macbeth.

One of my favorite things about the show was the exploration aspect. Every room in the hotel is different and ranges all over the place from Victorian style bedrooms to a cemetery to a candy shop. It's impossible to see the entire place because it's easy to get distracted looking through old books or wardrobes. No photos were allowed during the show, but try a google image search if you're curious.

We ended up exploring for the first half of the show and following characters for the second half. I was so glad I didn't get separated from N because at times it was creepy or scary. Kind of like being in a Kubrick film set in the 1920s. It was also exhausting because we did a lot of running up and down stairs trying to keep up with the actors.

I made a point of wearing a vintage look. I wish I had something 20s style in my wardrobe but this seemed to work when I was there. Here ya go:

Dress: thrifted; Sweater: vintage; Jewelry: vintage; Shoes: Melissa
Our friends A and M went on the same night as us (for the second time, lucky!) but we didn't see them for most of the night because the place is so big and it's very easy to get separated.

I managed to sneak a quick picture with A right before we went in:

I also sneaked a picture with my mask on right before we left, although it turned out that wasn't necessary because you can keep your mask! I didn't know this and left mine but M was really nice and gave me his since he had one from his previous show.

Visit the McKittrick Hotel before it's too late, the show supposedly closes soon. Good luck getting tickets though!
